Data Minimization and Security

  • Encryption: Personal data is encrypted at rest and in transit using industry standards.
  • No Sale of Data: Personal data is never sold.
  • Limited Sharing: Personal data is never shared with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes. Data is only shared with third-party sub-processors (such as AI model providers) strictly as necessary to provide the Ambient service, as detailed below.

How We Use Your Data

Purpose: We access specific data types only to power the features you enable. For example:

  • We access Google Contacts solely to determine the names of contacts in direct chat conversations and to find associated emails to use for calendar invites.
  • We access Google Calendar to add events from your texts to your calendar and to avoid creating duplicate entries.
  • We access messages in conversations where Ambient is added to index them for searching and extract events for scheduling

User Control: All data access is clearly messaged. You can revoke access or delete your account at any time. Revoking access immediately halts data collection from that source and deletes associated stored data.

AI & Third-Party Models

Ambient utilizes Gemini's paid service tier to power its AI capabilities. Any data sent is kept private and safe. The paid tier:

  • Keeps the data private
  • Does not use the data to train models
  • Stores the data only for a limited period of time solely for the purpose of detecting violations of the Prohibited Use Policy and any required legal or regulatory disclosures

Google User Data Accessed by Ambient

When you connect your Google account, Ambient accesses the following data:

  • Google Contacts: Contact names and email addresses
  • Other Contacts: Names and email addresses of contacts you've interacted with
  • Google Calendar: Calendar event details (titles, times, attendees). Access also is used to create new calendars and calendar events

This data is used solely as described in "How We Use Your Data" above. Ambient's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
